Bulgaria – the year in the EU
oining the EU a year ago, Bulgaria has not only made its official Cyrillic alphabet, added to the population of 8 million people, but also became the poorest country in the EU.
Therefore, the question about what has changed in the country for a year, Bulgarians responded: “Prices”.
If we sum up everything I heard, that “prices have risen, wages have remained stagnant, while money from the EU has not been seen.”
Were the Bulgarians are ready for the EU?
“Every Bulgarian in my heart has always been a European, – considers businessman Ratko Vlaicu. – But the majority of the population was totally unprepared for the liberalization of prices that followed the accession to the EU. Many people still do not believe that the requirements of the European Union will be bound to think that here and there, they can be bypassed.
An independent American journalist Matthew Brunvasser, who has lived and worked in Bulgaria for eight years, believes that “Bulgaria supports the idea of the European Union almost more than the old EU members. But they do not perceive their membership as their own achievement, as well as a solution to” no some chiefs in Brussels.
